They might be the whipping boys so far in the ongoing season but last night Silver Sands FC put their early season troubles behind them as they shocked the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme with a 2-0 defeat, when the Digicel-sponsored Barbados Football Association’s Premier League continued at the Wildey, St Michael Astro Turf.
Also in action were Solaris Pinelands who came from behind to earn a 3-3 draw against Klaytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame.
In the featured game Silver Sands who are at the bottom of the points standings in tenth place had their moments of glory thanks to goals from defender Mario Kinch and midfielder Christopher Harris. This victory earned them their first three points of the league season after playing eight matches so far and losing seven.

Goal scorer Mario Kinch (left) of Silver Sands played well and often times was held back from making runs on the BDFSP’s goal, such as this occasion when Decarlo Jemmott tried to hinder his progress.
Silver Sands’ first goal came in the 27th minute when Kinch found his way through the BDFSP’s defence which was caught napping and he placed the ball wide of goalkeeper Dario Weir who was not very happy with his defenders.
The BDFSP fans were perhaps confident their team would come from behind and take control of the game in the second half. After all, they were playing Silver Sands. But instead they were stunned by Silver Sands once more when in the 61st minute midfielder Harris ran the ball down the left flank, brought it just inside the 18-yard box and nicely guided the ball into the back of the nets after Weir left his line and was unable to get back in time to make the save. There were several happy supporters heading back to Christ Church after the game.
The other Premier League game was filled with lots of drama including a red card for Pinelands’ Lamar Scantlebury just before half-time in the 40th minute. Striker Dwayne Mars got the ball rolling for the Dames in the 6th minute when he scored to put them up 1-0. Later in the 15th minute former national player John “Nobby” Parris made it 2-0. Pinelands got a gift the 24th minute when Notre Dame scored an own goal to put the game at 2-1 at the end of the first half.
Soon after the second half commenced the Dames added another goal in the 51st minute compliments striker Akeem Hill to put the score at 3-1. One would have thought that Pinelands were done and dusted but they dug deep into their resolve and scored in the 64th and 85th minutes to pull the game back. The goals came from Dario Wilson and Rasheed Greaves.
After the game there was some disturbance in the Pinelands’ camp that attracted the attention of the Royal Barbados Police Force and other security officials.
