St John Primary’s dry spell ended today when they recorded their first win in the BICO-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Football Competition with a 5-0 drubbing of Hill Top Preparatory at Market Hill, St George.
Playing in partly overcast conditions, St John owed their victory in large measure to captain Jashawn Small who not only scored two goals but marshaled his team well in what was essentially a one-sided affair. St John controlled the game from start to finish and had about eighty percent of the ball possession.

St John began their assault when Small sent in a cross from the right of the field to left wing Dimitri Peters who volleyed the ball past Hill Top goalkeeper Luke White. White tried but was unable to get his gloves to the ball.
The duo of Peters and Small continued their attack on Hill Top once more when Peters sent in a throw from the right of the field to Small who took a confident right-footed shot at goal and scored.
Small was a busy man on the field and yet again he capitalized on another goal scoring opportunity when he ran up the right flank, tackled Hill Top’s left wing Tajiri Sutherland just outside the 18-yard box and powerfully booted the ball past White once again to score.

Hill Top failed to mark their opponents properly and were always a pass away from being in danger. Their keeper White did not help their cause as he allowed a few simple balls to get past him.
With just under two minutes until the first half concluded, Small was in action once again when his pinpoint pass found striker Triston Peters just outside the box and Peters scored with a simple tap-in past White yet again to end the first half 4-0.
St John had every reason to feel confident going into the second half and they played that way even though Hill Top came out looking more purposeful in the second half. Hill Top captain Jeshua Jemmott, front stopper Imani Williams and left wing Tajiri Sutherland were the main players
who seemed to have some fighting spirit in them and attacked their opponents whenever the ball was in St John’s possession.
However St John’s defense stood up to the challenge and every run made by Hill Top came to naught. But before the game ended St John would score another goal through striker Zedani Hayde. White executed a poor kick from inside the box and Hayde was in very close proximity to head the ball back toward the right of White and into the back of the nets.

At Speightstown, Gordon Greenidge Primary hammered Half Moon Fort 5-0. Yamar Boyce notched a brace while there were goals for Shaheem Carter, Jahiem Greaves and Cadeem Quintyne. At the same venue goals from Daniel Boyce and Emmerson Graham led Roland Edwards to a 2-1 win over St. Lucy Primary. Teshawn Brathwaite scored for St Lucy Primary.
Jesonte Connell scored for Ignatius Byer and Tyral Greaves scored for Selah Primary as the schools drew 1-1 also at Speightstown,.
At Briar Hall Jacob Bethell’s goal was enough to gain St Angela’s a 1-0 win over Arthur Smith Primary. Asher Jn Pierre continued his good form with two goals as St Gabriel’s defeated Milton Lynch 3-1 at the same location. Alex Dent also scored for the winners while Rashon Marshall scored a consolation goal for Milton Lynch. Also at the Christ Church ground St Christopher’s Jaheim Harris and Chae Bynoe scored to beat St Bartholomew’s Primary 2-1. Kaylon Pilgrim netted for St. Bartholomew’s.
St. Angela’s Jacob Bethell scored the game-winner against Arthur Smith at Briar Hall.
At Trents, Tyrek King did a number on the struggling Eagles Academy who have been conceding numerous goals since the start of the competition. Today they went down 7-0 with King accounting for five goals. Amilion Jordan and Demitri Smith-Thorpe scored the other goals.
