Winning Wales

Defending champions Weymouth Wales have marched through to the second round of the 2015 Banks Beer Cup after thrashing Wotton FC 5-0 at the Wildey, St Michael Astro Turf on Sunday night.

Wales’ striker Kemar Headley scored in the 28th minute to produce what was the lone goal of the first half. He sped inside the goal area and used his skills deftly to get around the somewhat static Wotton defenders before finishing well.

Wales wasted no time scoring goal number two in the 47th minute of the second half compliments Jadai Clarke. Daniel Wilson made it goal number three in the 53rd minute while Hadan Holligan scored in the 56th and 64th minutes respectively to seal the rout.

Also in with chance for the $20 000 cash prize are University of the West Indies Blackbirds who comfortably brushed aside Springhead Farm/St Peter’s Bay Road View United 4-1.

UWI midfielder Trey Hart scored a hat-trick on the night which basically decided the fixture for the Cave Hill side. Hart gave UWI their first goal in the 41st minute when the ball was played up the right of the field inside the 18-yard box to striker Mario Harte who took a shot at goal but was denied by Road View goal-keeper Dwaine Bowen who did not make a clean save. Hart was in place to score on the rebound.

In the second half Hart was back at it again in the 46th minute when UWI striker Dario Harewood ran down the right flank and placed a perfectly weighted ball over to the midfielder who scored on the run.

Hart managed to complete his hat-trick when a player was brought down inside the danger zone and he stepped up to take the penalty and nailed it into the back of the nets in 54th minute. Midfielder Andre Leslie got in on the action for UWI in the 75th minute when the ball was played inside the box to Leslie who wrong-footed goalkeeper Bowen and slotted the ball into the back of the nets.

Road View managed to pull one back in the 84th minute when Jason Blackman capitalized on a corner which came in from the right and headed it past UWI goalkeeper Keon Harding.

 In the first game played on the evening Silver Sands defeated Empire 2-1. Mario Kinch and Jamal Pinder scored in the 45th and 69th minute respectively for the winners while Wyatt Maynard scored Empire’s lone goal in the 70th minute.
