Wins for UWI and Brittons Hill

Mackeson Brittons Hill got the better of Direct TV Paradise 2-0 when the two teams met last night at the Wildey, St Michael Astro Turf,  as action continued in the Digicel-sponsored Barbados Football Association’s Premier League.

University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds won 5-1 against Klaytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame in the other game. UWI have now edged back into third position with 14 points, ahead of the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme who are on 13.

The Brittons Hill and Paradise match-up was marked by excellent goalkeeping at both ends from Jason Boxill and Richard Ince during the first-half. The effect was that the two teams went into the break scoreless. This however all changed in the second half.

In the 70th minute Brittons Hill’s striker Mustafa Haqq gave his team the lead when the ball broke from the left through the middle to him and he controlled it well and chipped the ball over the head of Paradise goalkeeper Boxill’s head.

With three minutes of extra time signalled by fourth official Edwin Adams, Brittons Hill captured their second goal when striker Dwayne Stanford from the right of the field booted the ball over to the left top corner where striker Curtis Odle was positioned and he buried the ball into the back of the nets with a right-footed shot in the 91st minute.

In the first game the University team scored two early goals in the 17th and 23rd minutes compliments striker Dario Harewood and midfielder Trey Hart. The ball was played up the right to midfielder Kadeem Atkins who attempted to score but the ball went over to the left inside the six-yard box and landed at the boot of Harewood who simply placed it to the bottom left of the goal for the first strike.

Hart then took a shot from inside the 18-yard box and managed to score  to make it 2-0 for UWI. Notre Dame had to dig deep to come from behind going into the second half

Notre Dame striker Akeem Hill scored in the 63rd minute to put his team back in the game when the second half commenced but UWI then went up 3-1 in the 68th minute when Atkins was given a free pass by Notre Dame defenders and scored by comprehensively beating Dame’s goalkeeper Carlyle Gill.

Hart came back again a couple minutes later and buried Notre Dame with two fantastic goals in the 75th and 76th minutes to end the game with a hat-trick.
